Athletics Correspondent
D. A. G. Pirie, with a very swift run over the mentally stimulating Waiuku State forest course of six miles, won the senior, Auckland provincial orienteering championship in 1h 14m 30s yesterday morning.

C. W. Battley, who over the early stages appeared likely to worry Pirie for the title was second and P. L. Cunningham third.

The outstanding 63-year-old Norwegian S. W. Moen won the intermediate men's title in 1h 27m 45s over A Brown and G. Body, while Miss Anne Garrett, the Auckland women's road champion, proved she is developing into a first-class orienteer with victory in the intermediate women's division in the flrst-class time of lh 47m 45s.

Miss Dianne Townsend, younger sister of the New Zealand representative D. Townsend won the junior women's titlt with a time 3m 30s faster than the junior men's winner, R. Burkhead.

A butcher on his first attempt at the sport, R. Leaming won the novice men's championship.

A Nicholls won the reserve position in the New Zealand team for the Australasian championships by defeating R. Jenner by 2m 30s - a margin which illustrates the closeness of these two good athletes.

The surprisingly large number of 30 successfully completed their courses but, as is usual, several did not.
